Hilary Swank was moved to tears after accepting her humanitarian award for her role in the movie “Freedom Writers.”

An emotional Swank struggled to maintain her composure when the film’s director Richard LaGravenese presented her with the award at the Bel Air Hotel event in Bel Air, California.

Swank said, “It’s a reminder that I was able to be a part of a movie that is so important. It’s one of those stories where you learn how one person can make a difference in someone else’s life.”

In Freedom Writers Hilary portrays a teacher who encourages tolerance and higher education.

Oscar winner Hilary Swank is cutting her locks and donating them to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths charity campaign, a charity designed to offer support and encouragement for women who lost hair as a result of cancer treatments. Hilary, who will be cutting it off on an upcoming episode of Oprah, had the following to say about it:

“I’ve been growing my hair for months, so it’s super-long and super-healthy. I’ve gotten my conditioning treatments every four weeks. Everyone is commenting on my hair and how its long and pretty and healthy and shiny. All the better for a woman in need.”

Rock on, Hilary.
