The subject of cancer research is a special one for Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora. He lost his father to cancer last year. It only makes sense then the band headlined a concert last night for Stand Up for a Cure, an organization geared towards finding curing cancer. Funds raised are going to Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center where Richies father was treated.

Shakira is a known giver. Last year she gave millions to hurricane victims and to help build schools in South America. This week she’s auctioning off her personal belongings to continue to help build schools in her native Columbia. So far, fans have paid $3,000 for a rhinestone-studded bra and $14,000 for meeting Shakira and attending one of her shows as a front-row guest.
Though the auction has ended, two guitars are still up for grabs. Visit Auction Cause for details.

Celebrity Cowboy has a list of 15 Celebrities Who Are Actually Smart. They’re Ivy League graduates, members of MENSA and are degreed in subjects such as Philosophy, Engineering and English Literature. Some of them may surprise you, but not too much. After all, we know there are plenty of smart celebrities, they just know enough to stay out of trouble. Thus they don’t get all the attention of their less intelligent counterparts. I’m willing to bet they even like it that way.

Orlando Bloom is doing some relief work for UNICEF. How nice that he gives up his spare time to help those less fortunate when he could be laying on the beach somewhere or out clubbing. He looks like he’s having a really good time too!

It’s an order of magnitude off of Johnny Depp’s gift, but it’s still a great thing. Allen Iverson, basketball star for the Denver Nuggets, is donating $100,000 to the Newport News Police Department’s gun buyback program. I’ve not always been a fan of his - especially his quote about “practice” — but I’ve always admired his tenacity, grit and toughness on the court. He has had troubles with the law starting way back in his days at Georgetown and this definitely shows his maturity as a person.
Way to go, Allen.

Johnny Depp is so grateful to the hospital that saved his daughter Lily Rose during her life and death battle with kidney failure last year, that he donated 1 million pounds. He showed up with the donation, without fan fair, publicity or advanced notice. Now that’s class.
And that’s not all. Last November, Johnny showed up at the children’s ward and read stories and talked to the kids for four hours. Again, without fan fair or photographers. He also invited several doctors and nurses from the Great Ormond Street Hospital to attend the Sweeney Todd premiere party in London. Great looking, a good actor and a nice person? What a rare combination!
Rock on, Johnny!

Tom Brady, the undefeated New England Patriots Quarterback, is not really my favorite. I’m a Buffalo Bills fan and therefore hate am not too enamored with his team and his hoody-wearing jerk of a Coach, Bill Bellicheck. Tom’s matinee-idol status took a serious hit, when he and his long time girlfriend, Bridget Moynihan, broke up and she turned up pregnant. But I digress. Perfection should have some kind of blemish, right?
Well, he’s just completed a record breaking season not only for himself, but also for his team and the No Fun League rewarded him by naming him the Most Valuable Player in a near-unanimous vote [a disgruntled cheddar head must have voted for Brett Favre].
Anyway….Tom is dedicated to a bunch of charities and with his new GF, megababe Gisele Bundchen, has added DATA and One.org to his charities list. In the off-season he went to Africa in support of these charities and is getting the word out. He is also involved with a charity that builds physical fitness equipment for physically challenged children.
MVP, Supermodel Girlfriend, Good Looking and Does good things for charites. What’s not to like? I mean, besides that New England Patriots affiliation?

By: DebIn Kid Rock on December 26th, 2007
To be honest, I was hesitant about posting this bit about Kid Rock because his behavior doesn’t always echo that of a role model. But if someone is willing to give up his Christmas to perform for our solders in Iraq, he’s worthy of a mention. So we’ll just overlook some of his past bad behavior in order to give him the props he deserves for showing his support for the troops.
Rock on, Kid.

As you can probably tell, we’re big fans of Miley Cyrus here at the Celebrity Role Model blog. We think she has a good head on her shoulders and likes that she places education and family values high on her list over partying, dating and photo ops.
We also like that Miley realizes that she’s a role model for other teens and tweens and as such needs to behave in a certain manner. Miley said she picks out her own outfits for the red carpet with other teens in mind.
“I like to look kind of like what girls would want to look up to, and their moms and dads will say, ‘Hey, that’s cool. That’s different. I look way young and that’s the way that’s more comfortable for me.”
Rock on, Miley. We expect great things from you.
