All proceeds from tonight’s Gwen Stefani concert in San Diego will go to the victims of the fires that cost so much devastation in that area.
Gwen told of her intention on a radio show interview yesterday morning, “When I heard about the devastation of the fires, at first I felt I should cancel my show out of respect, but then it occurred to me there might be a more useful solution”.

I’ve always been a fan of Jamie Lee Curtis. Not only because I feel she’s a great actress, but I also appreciate how she uses her fame to promote great causes such as literacy. Here’s another great cause, the Home Town Heroes Celebrity Portrait Campaign. This campaign throws the spotlight on celebrities who have done some great things such as volunteer for Red Cross. From Celeb-Zee:

Oscar winner Hilary Swank is cutting her locks and donating them to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths charity campaign, a charity designed to offer support and encouragement for women who lost hair as a result of cancer treatments. Hilary, who will be cutting it off on an upcoming episode of Oprah, had the following to say about it:
“I’ve been growing my hair for months, so it’s super-long and super-healthy. I’ve gotten my conditioning treatments every four weeks. Everyone is commenting on my hair and how its long and pretty and healthy and shiny. All the better for a woman in need.”
Rock on, Hilary.

Al Gore, along with the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, won the Nobel Peace Prize for efforts to raise awareness and educate others on issues regarding man-made client change.
“I am deeply honored to receive the Nobel Peace Prize,” the former Vice President said. “We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity.” Gore also said he would donate his share of the $1.5 million prize to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a non-profit and bipartisan organization.
The Nobel Citations read: “His strong commitment, reflected in political activity, lectures, films and books, has strengthened the struggle against climate change. He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted.”
A well deserved accolade, indeed.

Remember the “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” game many of us played years ago? The game, which connected every actor with Kevin Bacon, inspired the name of Bacon’s Multiple Sclerosis awareness social networking site, SixDegrees.org. Touted as “social networking with a conscience”, SixDegree.org allows you to support your favorite charities by donating or creating fundraising badges. And while you’re there, you can check out some very famous people and their favorite causes.
Kevin Bacon gets a special Celebrity Role Model Blog salute for helping to raise awareness and encourage others to support various causes. Rock on, Kevin.

Rhianna peformed at a UNICEF fund raiser on Wall Street the other night. It’s nice to see celebrities take time off from their paying jobs to help raise money for a good cause. These are the people who the press should follow around, not the poster children for bad behavior.

By: adminIn Reese Witherspoon on October 4th, 2007

We at The Celebrity Role Model Blog admire Resse Witherspoon because she conducts herself with class, whether in front of the camera or in private. Reese is angry of the “sad and strange” behavior of celebrity party girls such as Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. They’re not what she (and we) consider good role models at all.
“We don’t need to keep reading about female celebrities who are out there posing all the time and craving attention and exploiting the sex symbol stereotype.
“My mother and grandmother fought incredibly hard against a male establishment to become high achievers in their lives, and I think women should be able to be sexy and smart and successful - without being silly and aimless.”
You’re so right, Reese. Which is the reason we started this blog in the first place. Celebrities like those mentioned above are considered role models for young women, but they don’t seem to care what kind of message their bad behavior sends to the girls and young women looking up to them. We need to stop rewarding bad behavior and encourage good behavior.
Rock on, Reese.

America Ferrera was awarded the “Latina Leader” award by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute yesterday. Good for her. We need more positive role models and America is always someone who presents a down to earth and positive lifestyle.
