We at The Celebrity Role Model Blog admire Resse Witherspoon because she  conducts herself with class, whether in front of the camera or in private.  Reese is angry of the “sad and strange” behavior of celebrity party girls such as Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. They’re not what she (and we) consider good role models at all.

“We don’t need to keep reading about female celebrities who are out there posing all the time and craving attention and exploiting the sex symbol stereotype.

“My mother and grandmother fought incredibly hard against a male establishment to become high achievers in their lives, and I think women should be able to be sexy and smart and successful - without being silly and aimless.”

You’re so right, Reese. Which is the reason we started this blog in the first place. Celebrities like those mentioned above are considered role models for young women, but they don’t seem to care what kind of message their bad behavior sends to the girls and young women looking up to them. We need to stop rewarding bad behavior and encourage good behavior.

Rock on, Reese.

America Ferrera was awarded the “Latina Leader” award by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute yesterday. Good for her. We need more positive role models and America is always someone who presents a down to earth and positive lifestyle.

Shakira gives $45 million to charity

What would you do with $45 million? If you’re Shakira, you’ll use it to help make the world a better place. She donated $40 million to help fix problems in Latin American areas devastated by earthquakes and other natural causes. Another $5 million is being used to help educated children in these countries.

You don’t know how much this impresses me. In an age where entertainers have more money than they’ll be able to use in a lifetime, Shakira is choosing to give a large chunk of her fortune towards helping those who need it most. Let this be a lesson to the Parises, Lindsays and Britneys of the world. The real role models give and do and think of others instead of going to clubs and posing for the cameras all night.

Rock on, Shakira.

Bono is awarded the Liberty Medal

Bono received the Liberty Medal for his humanitarian efforts in Africa, in a ceremony in Philadelphia last night. Bono encouraged all Americans to continue supporting humanitarian causes.

“When you are trapped by poverty, you are not free. When trade laws prevent you from selling the food you grew, you are not free. When you are a monk in Burma this very week, barred from entering a temple because of your gospel of peace … well, then none of us are truly free,” he said.

Bono, as well as the foundation Debt AIDS Trade Africa, which he helped to found, received the award. The $100,000 award will be donated to an African charitable organization.

“America has so many great answers to offer,” he said. “We can’t fix all the world’s problems, but the ones we can we must.”

 sarah-michelle-gellar.jpg

Sarah Michelle Gellar does what she can to save money. For instance she likes to ride her bike everywhere. Plus she takes advantage of coupons and re-uses her shopping bags.

“I take my reusable bag to Whole Foods so I get a discount. I go to Bloomingdale’s on double rewards day. And I always print my dry cleaning coupons before I go. My dry cleaner laughs. He’s like, ‘You don’t have to keep printing them out!’ “

Not only is it bright pink with the bell and streamers and the whole thing, but it has Hello Kitty tyres. Every time I leave my apartment, my doorman just shakes his head.”

Now if only more celebrities would take the lead. Many of the beautiful and famous people who are out partying all night and getting into trouble, do it for attention. Wouldn’t it be better for all of us to focus our attention on the good deeds to we can talk about Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Hello Kitty bike rather than Britney Spears custody battle?

Mindful of what’s happening among the members of young Hollywood’s elite, Billy Ray Cyrus is hoping Miley makes good choices and continues to act in a positive manner.

“I worry every day,” Cyrus told CMT.com. “Luckily, we go back to our roots. We’re a faith-based family. We’ve always tried to live for the light. I’m the last guy to cast a stone at anybody. I’ve made as many mistakes or more than any of those kids have made out there. But I tried to learn from my mistakes, so I’m hoping that Miley can look at my life and some of the other things around here and just learn so she doesn’t have to make those mistakes.”

Cyrus also said that Miley, who was only 12 when she was cast in Hannah Montana, has a “good head on her shoulders and a good heart.”

“We pray every day that she’s going to make good decisions. Then we pray every day that I’m gonna make a couple of good decisions, too. She’s probably worried more about me than I am about her.”

Prince Harry’s Tribute to Princess Diana

By: admin
In Royalty on September 1st, 2007

Prince Harry gave a moving tribute to his mother, Princess Diana, at her memorial yesterday.

“William and I can separate life into two parts. There were those years when we were blessed with the physical presence beside us of both our mother and father.

And then there are the 10 years since our mother’s death. When she was alive we completely took for granted her unrivalled love of life, laughter, fun and folly. She was our guardian, friend and protector.

She never once allowed her unfaltering love for us to go unspoken or undemonstrated.

She will always be remembered for her amazing public work. But behind the media glare, to us, just two loving children, she was quite simply the best mother in the world.

We would say that wouldn’t we. But we miss her.

She kissed us last thing at night. Her beaming smile greeted us from school. She laughed hysterically and uncontrollably when sharing something silly she might have said or done that day. She encouraged us when we were nervous or unsure.

She - like our father- was determined to provide us with a stable and secure childhood.

To lose a parent so suddenly at such a young age - as others have experienced - is indescribably shocking and sad. It was an event which changed our lives forever, as it must have done for everyone who lost someone that night.

But what is far more important to us now, and into the future, is that we remember our mother as she would have wished to be remembered, as she was - fun-loving, generous, down-to-earth, entirely genuine.

We both think of her every day. We speak about her and laugh together at all the memories.

Put simply, she made us, and so many other people, happy. May this be the way that she is remembered.”

What wonderful words written about a special woman. We always read about Diana the princess or humanitarian, it’s nice to read about Diana the mother - probably the title she was most proud of.
